Bar Code Solutions Seminars

Over the past eight years we have offered this popular seminar at various locations around the country. Of course, it has been continually refreshed with new technology explained as it becomes available. More and more we are getting calls from companies who want us to devote the entire two days to their particular bar code applications. For that reason we are now offering two seminar options, On-Site Seminars and Seminars by the Sea.

On-Site Seminars

This seminar of either one or two days duration (two days preferred) is held at your location, with as many of your staff as appropriate. We tailor the agenda to your needs, following roughly the format suggested below. One advantage is that our expert can tour your facility, if that aids in system planning and understanding. It is also good to get as many participants from your company's various departments together as possible, as bar code implementation requires buy-in and commitment from your entire staff. We provide a comprehensive workbook and a copy of David Collins' book, USING BAR CODE - Why It's Taking Over for everyone in attendance.

Bar Code Seminars by the Sea

David Collins leading discussion. Another option is to bring your team to our beautiful seaside location for an intensive "retreat-like" experience. Here you are far from phones and other interruptions, and there is every opportunity for total concentration on planning and implementing bar code application(s). After work hours there are seafood restaurants and quaint streets to explore, in this historic New England town, along with cruises on Cape Cod Bay and tours of the Mayflower and Plimoth Plantation. Lodging is any easy walk from our office, and we are served by Boston's Logan and Providence, RI Airports.

One advantage to holding your bar code seminar at our quarters is that you will have access to our technical staff. This means that hardware and software questions, along with networking issues can be worked out, during your stay, utilizing the specialized know-how of our bar code experts. As with the On-Site Seminar, we provide a comprehensive workbook and a copy of David Collins' book, USING BAR CODE - Why It's Taking Over for everyone in attendance.

Seminar Agenda The Seminar Agenda

The agenda for your seminar will be drawn from your company's particular needs. Prior to your seminar, we request information on your company's current status and the problems you intend to solve using bar code. To the left is a list of the topics we typically cover.

The Seminar Leader

Your seminar leader at either your facility or ours will be Data Capture Institute's president, David Collins, widely acknowledged as the founder of the bar code industry, and holder of patents on a number of the earliest bar code inventions. In 1968 he founded Computer Identics Corporation, the first company to develop and market bar code products and systems. As president and CEO for 18 years and during his 10 years at DCI he has directed solutions to over 2000 industrial data collection problems. Currently he is Project Leader for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Bar Code Asset Tracking System (BCATS), the cutting-edge, data collection program being designed, developed, and implemented by DCI.

David is also co-founder of the Automatic Identification Manufacturers, Inc. (AIM/USA) trade association. A frequent lecturer, he is author of the popular book, USING BAR CODE - Why It's Taking Over , and is editor of Data Capture Case Studies & Technology Newsletter. A graduate engineer from Villanova University, he earned his Master of Science Degree in Industrial Management from the Sloan School at MIT. He was the 1992 recipient of the Dilling Award, the bar code industry's highest honor, for his bar code pioneering. In 1993 he received the prestigious Stanley J. Morehouse Award, Villanova's highest award to an engineering alumnus.
