In 1996 UPS contracted with Data Capture Institute for the upgrade and redevelopment of the Trackpad Mailroom Tracking System, which enables companies to internally track time sensitive and accountable packages, documents, and materials, after receipt at the door through final desktop delivery. The system utilizes bar code, touch screen capability, infrared data transfer, and signature capture.

The Trackpad project involved redeveloping and upgrading of both the client and hand held applications.

  • The client application was enhanced and upgraded from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95/98.
  • The hand held application included the redevelopment and porting from the discontinued Apple Newton platform, to the now popular Windows CE platform.
UPS chose A2B Tracking Solutions, a DCI sister company, for sales and support of the Trackpad Mailroom Tracking System, version 2.0. Trackpad is currently installed and operating in a number of large companies including John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance and ADC Telecommunications.
