Over the
years Data Capture Institute has developed a unique method for
tracking assets with bar code from "cradle to grave." This
is particularly applicable to large enterprises which may have
traceable assets worth billions of dollars. In the private sector
shareholders expect an investment return of twenty percent or more
from these assets. In government agencies there is increased
pressure from Congress for fiscal accountability of taxpayers'
money.
To achieve this sophisticated level of reporting, assets must have
real-time visibility to allow continuous operational analysis. This
seamless transfer of data enables the enterprise to realize enormous
savings in overstocked inventory, location of parts, history of
component failures, etc. Client-server information technology (IT)
is well suited to permitting executives or business analysts access
to either the events database or the data warehouse through
mainstream networking.

The Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) has established a national bar code
asset tracking system (BCATS) that is both visionary and expedient.
With this tool FAA management will have real-time data on the
history, movement, and investment represented by millions of radar
system LRUs (lowest replaceable units) as they are ordered, shipped,
installed or repaired by some 9000 System Specialists in the field
or by FAA Logistics Center personnel.

The Goal
of BCATS : To provide an efficient, effective asset and supply
chain management capability.
